Creating environments for a public movement to protect monuments in the USSR during the Great Patriotic war

The purpose of this article is to study the process of the emergence of a social movement in defense of ancient monuments in the middle of the last century. Historical research method is used to show that the decision to restore the destroyed objects of historical and cultural heritage was made already during the Great Patriotic War, as well as in the first post-war years, despite the catastrophic shortage of resources and funds in the country. During the period under study, the problem of preservation of monuments acquired a patriotic sound for the first time after the October Revolution. The study is based on archival documents. These materials allow us to reconstruct the picture in detail, giving a comprehensive idea of the activities of various commissions, sections and other structures whose competence included issues of restoration, preservation and restoration of ancient monuments. As a result, the author comes to the conclusion that the described processes laid the foundation for the subsequent institutionalization and organizational design of the movement for the protection of historical and cultural heritage objects in our country. The first proposals on the creation of the All-Russian society for the preservation of monuments came from the historical and architectural community. This made it possible to further create powerful public structures in the field of preserving historical and cultural heritage and preserve many important objects of the past.Downloads
