Orel province on the eve of the first Russian state duma elections (1905–1906)

The purpose of the article is to consider the preparatory work of electoral actors of 1905-1906 in the context of the elections of representatives to the State Duma from Orel province. The study has an aim to examine the development of the Deputy Corps in the conditions of domestic political turbulence in the early 20th century. The sources of this research include the material of Orel State Archive, reference and encyclopedic literature, memories and periodicals. General scientific research methods are used as the main methodological basis: historical-critical, comparative-historical, and problem-chronological. It is noted that the governor, Zemstvo and Provincial Councils, Orel mayor, the police chief, Orel Provincial Commission on the State Duma Elections played an active role in the process under study. The residents of Orel province themselves, as well as political parties, took an active part in the pre-election (including campaigning) work. As a result, the authors conclude that the "right" choice of the Deputy Corps was able to ensure both personal and state security.Downloads
